A Beautiful Day in the Park

Ahhh, Indian summer. Though, it is November, so really, oddly warm weather for November. We went to Dorbrook park yesterday so Andrew could run. We also got to try out our spiffy new Bob Revolution Duallie! Thanks Mom and Dad!

Beauty and the Beach Run

Andrew and I started running this summer. We ran our first race 2 weeks ago. It was a 4 miler on the Boardwalk in Long Branch. This weekend, I ran the "Beauty and the Beach" 5 miler. I ran in 1hr 40 seconds. Not bad for a nursing mother with a 5 month and 19 month old!
This was a great run on the Jersey Shore with 450 women running for the fun of it. The weather was beautiful and the course was FLAT. We ran down the boardwalk, turned around, ran back up, turned around again, and ran back down. The surf was pounding, there were fishermen searching for dinner and a yogi doing sun salutations towards the ocean. All sorts of sizes, shapes and ages of women ran. The winner of the race was the mother of 5 and the grandmother of 2. The youngest girl running the race was 7 and she ran with her mother and grandmother. The race was a celebration of what women can do and it truly was Beauty on the Beach.

I started to run for a very selfish reason; I needed time to myself. I love my boys, I love my husband and I love my life. But, everyone needs some space to think and remember themselves. That is what running gives me. I can plod along (5mph isn't really that fast) and think about things, solve problems, remember myself so that I do not get lost in the raising of our sons.

I continue to run because it is fun to see what I can do. I accidentally ran 6.5 miles last weekend (I got really lost). I like feeling my heart pound and running through the stiffness and the pain in my ankle. I like entering a race and not coming in last. Andrew and I like modeling healthy behavior for the boys and look forward to taking them on runs with us.

Our week

What a week it has been. It really left us all exhausted...

Eating yummy homemade yogurt

Ben is sitting up really well in the Bumbo

It's a bowl, it's a hat!

It wasn't a great week for Phillies fans

Dad was hard at work

And Grandad is doing great

We did dome fall clean up

And some outside tummy time

And when we got tired we just hung out

What's more scenic than a German Shepherd in the leaves?

What a great time!
